Once the Christmas holidays are over, our trees begin a new life! Placed on the dune, they help maintain the dune cordon weakened by the Ocean.

A gift for the dune

All along the Landes coastline, the dune suffers from the action of the swell and the wind. Exposed to bad weather, it requires regular maintenance and protection work. These allow restore the dune environment and heal the eroding areas. The Christmas period offers the opportunity to launch a large-scale operation to restore the health of this fragile space.

Eco-friendly recycling

The operation “A fir tree for the dune” relies on the involvement of residents who are invited to dispose of their Christmas trees efficiently. Rather than taking them to the recycling center to end up as compost, owners are invited to drop them off during collections organized by many municipalities.
What are the fir trees on the dunes for? To protect the dune cordon from erosion! Once collected, the arbres de noel are used as branches. They will be deposited so that trap sand and recreate a plant cover to fix the dune.

An educational action

This action allows you to'involve the population', all generations combined, for the protection of our environment. Participatory construction sites are organized in the most affected areas. Everyone is invited to participate in these voluntary operations. educational workshops are also organized with children, accompanied by agents of the National Forestry Office and municipal agents. The gesture is simple, place branches in strategic places that will trap the sand carried by the wind. A legacy of ancient techniques, this eco-responsible act contributes to limit wind erosion and to fill in eroded areas.
"A fir tree for the dune” gives residents the opportunity to take concrete action for the environment.
